The Marquette Neighborhood Association will discuss and vote on outdoor seating at State Line Distillery, Bos Meadery and Granpa's Pizzeria, as well as whether to approve a proposal for a 150-seat Bar/Arcade at 720 Williamson St. All residents of the neighborhood can take part in the voting. For anyone unable to attend the meeting at the WilMar Neighborhood Center at 953 Jenifer St. from 7-9 pm on Monday, March 19th, emails can be sent to the Neighborhood Association at: mnaboard@marquette-neighborhood.org
The proposed arcade/bar for 720 Williamson St. with seating for 250 people will be having a neighborhood meeting to receive feedback from local residents. The meeting will be at the Wil-Mar (Real) Community Center, 953 Jenifer St., at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 14th.
From Ald. Marsha Rummel: "Please join me for a neighborhood meeting where we will hear about Mitchell Turino’s proposal to open I/O Arcade Bar at 720 Williamson Street. The establishment would be an entertainment venue consisting of over 25 arcade games, 8 pinball machines, rentable board gaming and space for viewing competitive gaming tournaments. The estimated capacity is 200-250, and the proposed hours are Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; Monday through Thursday, 4:30 p.m.-2 a.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-2:30 a.m. A parking lot on the far side of the building would be equipped with security cameras and would provide spaces for 30+ cars and multiple bikes. Mr. Turino has applied for a Class B Beer and Liquor license. The application will be considered by the Alcohol License Review Committee at their meeting on March 21." It looks like the owner of Grampa's Pizzeria and Gib's Bar is taking another crack at outdoor seating after repeatedly hearing from neighbors that outdoor seating and the expansion of service at the two businesses will increase noise and traffic/parking problems. A neighborhood meeting will be held. I will share the information if I hear anything.
Update (8/6/2018): According to Alder Marsha Rummel's blog, Grampa's has withdrawn their applications for outdoor seating. The business did not explain why, but there was significant opposition from immediate neighbors to the patio. www.cityofmadison.com/council/district6/blog/?Id=14789 From Jack Kear, Board Member, Posted to the MNA Listserve on February 27th.
"The next committee meeting of the neighborhood association that addresses matters such as the Arcade Bar proposal will be the meeting of Preservation & Development on March 13th at 5:30pm at the WilMar Center. This meeting will cover outdoor seating applications from State Line Distillery, Working Draft Brewery, Gib's, and an entertainment license application from Bandung Restaurant. The Arcade Bar application will be discussed in a public meeting on March 14th coordinated by the alder because the proposed size of the establishment merits it. We do not have a location for that meeting yet." You can read the letter below or view it here: www.tenneylapham.org/web-data/tlnaissues/TLNABreeseLetterFeb2018.pdf Notably, the Marquette Neighborhood Association has pledged it's unanimous support of TLNA's letter in a recent board meeting.
