After substantial opposition from neighbors of the Willy St. Co-op and other concerned citizens, Madison's Alcohol License and Review Committee (ALRC) decided to support a beer, cider and wine license on October 18th. Among those who did not support the alcohol license included the Marquette Neighborhood Association. A neighborhood meeting was also held by the Co-op, where most of the attendees were against the plan. The Co-op argued that alcohol sales were needed to address flat sales. A full service liquor store is located two doors down on the same block. Co-op members were not polled on the issue.
